Why go to Lygon Street when you can eat at Soprano's
You might think the best Italian food in Melbourne is reserved for Lygon Street, but when you find hidden gems such as Soprano's Restaurant & Pizzeria, you'll realise you don't always need to journey all the way into Carlton for the best eats.
Soprano's Restaurant & Pizzeria is in a quiet area of Southbank, on City Road just behind the Eureka Tower. Positioned away from the main 'strip' of restaurants along the Yarra means you don't get the crowds, noise nor (dare I say) the prices. But that doesn't mean this family-run restaurant is any less of its popular competitors.
Having chosen to eat at Soprano's Restaurant & Pizzeria on a particularly busy night in Melbourne, we were delighted to find this sociable little eatery. Its cosy feel and welcoming atmosphere matched the restaurant's fast and friendly service. The positives continue ...
Soprano's Restaurant & Pizzeria is extremely well priced for the area. You'll be paying far more in a similar restaurant just around the corner. Let's not forget the food itself - which is fresh, tasty and well-balanced.
We chose 'Goats Cheese Gourmet' pizza, with a request to go without the prosciutto (one of us is a vegetarian), which was no problem at all. The second dish, the Marinara Pasta, meant we could try the usual Italian fare and both passed the taste test.
It's fair to say the owners and staff at Soprano's Restaurant & Pizzeria work hard to please their customers. We were delighted with our menu choices (the pizza in particular is one of the best we've eaten in years) and we very much enjoyed the atmosphere in this CBD Italian eatery.
Side note: Soprano's Restaurant & Pizzeria also serve Nutella pizzas!
