The compassion you feel and display originates from your sensitivity towards others who are suffering emotionally or physically. These feelings you hold for others and your desire to relieve their pain manifest your personal virtue that is compassion.
While it is innate in many of us to focus our compassion onto the care and support of our friends and family we are very often lacking in the same compassion towards ourselves. Most of us struggle with the concepts of self-compassion and self-love. We feel guilty, selfish and self-indulgent by taking some time out for ourselves – some 'Me Time'. While it is often easier to focus on the care of others it is vital that we also focus on ourselves in order to maintain a healthy body and mind.
The first Soothe: Cultivating Compassion program is planned to commence on Wednesday 16 October and run until Wednesday 27 November, 2019. Sessions will be conducted in Zest Infusion's rooms at 19/112 Birkdale Road, Birkdale from 6.00pm until 8.00pm on these Wednesdays:
Designed to provide participants with a better understanding of true and complete compassion as well as its benefits for emotional and mental wellbeing the program will help you discover a new pathway to Self-Compassion. With the use of practical exercises and meditations to cultivate compassion from week to week you will develop a better understanding of what compassion is and its benefits for your emotional and mental wellbeing.
Facilitated by Shannon Moule, a Clinical Psychologist, Soothe: Cultivating Compassion offers new insights and skills to enable you to be more compassionate to yourselves as well as other relationships in your life.
The total cost of the seven weeks is $364 or $52 per week. However, with a referral from your doctor, you will receive a Medicare refund of $32.15 per session (Full cost with doctor's referral is $138.95 or $19.85 per week). The program's costs include all the course handouts and meditation audios as well as some refreshing tea and coffee during the sessions.
Once you have completed the program you will have learnt how to:
Be more resilient in the face of adversity
Be less critical towards yourself and others
Decrease feelings of shame
Respond more effectively to difficult emotions and moods (e.g. grief, depression and anxiety)
Stay on track with healthy habits.
Learn the techniques necessary to cultivate compassion, join in discussion time, practice your compassion techniques and acquire the skills to use guided meditations for cultivating compassion.
