Nestled amongst 50 acres of Mount Tamborine's pristine rainforests is a magical oasis, hidden from view from the screaming realities of the outside world. Instantly your muscles relax as you walk the manicured cobbled path, your body enveloped in the fresh crisp air that sings with the sounds of nature.
I was grateful and delighted for the thoughtful invitation to lunch at one of the most serene restaurants I've ever been to, away from the hustle and bustle, somewhere completely special and exclusive. Songbird's restaurant is known for its talented chef's superb culinary creations made from the freshest ingredients, mostly locally grown and organically produced when possible. Songbird's restaurant has won multiple awards over the years, including Best Tourism Restaurant for 2008 and 2009 on the Gold Coast.
The food is artistically presented and although I prefer more hearty portions than the delicate display that arrived on my plate, it was a fine dining experience. The flavours were definitely new to my palate. The restaurant serves a selection of wines from Australia, New Zealand and Europe and a selection of the most exquisite desserts that are very hard to resist.
Fine dining at Songbirds
We were asked if we wanted to take a tour of the property and look inside the accommodation villas that are secretly tucked away amongst the rainforest. I was pleasantly surprised by how luxuriously and spacious these villas are. Some are self-contained with a kitchenette for longer stays. Inside the villas offer a king size bed, a spa bath, a wood fire heater to snuggle up next to, tea and coffee making facilities, a microwave, dial-up phone, television, DVD player and a mini-bar. Outside is a spacious deck to enjoy the serenity and music offered by the native song birds.
Just when you thought it couldn't get any better, Songbirds offers massages for the ultimate pampering and stress reduction. For those keen to go all out on relaxation, yoga classes are also available.
Songbirds is also a popular venue for weddings. The restaurant sits up to 100 people and caters to your budget. The added bonus is that not only can the bride and groom enjoy a honeymoon night in one of the luxurious villas, but special guests can celebrate the special day as an extended weekend get-away.
Songbirds scarecrow guards the vege patch
There's definitely something very special about Songbirds Rainforest Retreat. I especially enjoyed taking a walk after lunch to explore not only the villas but we came across a large herb and vegetable garden that was guarded by a not so scary scarecrow with a kookaburra sitting on his head. The property boasts multiple fruit and citrus trees and an abundance of native plants, birds and animals. It was by far my most special lunch date in a very long time.
