Squabbalogic Independent Music Theatre have presented sell out seasons of Carrie The Musical and the Drowsy Chaperone. Now Squabbalogic Independent Music Theatre proudly presents the Australian premiere of Sondheim on Sondheim.

Who is Sondheim?

Stephen Sondheim is an American composer and lyricist, who is known for his contributions to musical theatre for over 50 years.

He has won an Academy Award, eight Tony Awards for Lifetime Achievement in Theatre, eight Grammy Awards, a Pulitzer Prize and the Laurence Olivier Award.

He has been described as "the greatest and perhaps best-known artist in the American musical theatre" by Frank Rick of The New York Times. Stephen Sondheim's most famous works include: A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Company, Follies, A Little Night Music, Sweeney Todd, Sunday in the Park with George, and Into the Woods (Sondheim was the composer and lyricist for these productions).

Stephen Sondheim has been described as "possibly the greatest lyricist ever". He has had a theatre renamed after him. In celebration of his 80th birthday, the former Henry Miller's Theatre was renamed the Stephen Sondheim Theatre on September 15th, 2010.

About the performance of Sondheim on Sondheim

The musical performance of Sondheim on Sondheim is an intimate look at the "Father of the Modern Musical" - Stephen Sondheim. The production will be performed at The Regional Theater, Seymour Centre, from the 1st October to the 18th October 2014.

This production is Squabbalogic's first production for the seaon of 2014 to 2015. Sondheim on Sondheim is drawn right from the heart of the man who is Stephen Sondheim. The production of Sondheim on Sondheim was originally presented on Broadway in 2010.

Director Craig Stewart will lead a cast that includes people such as Rob Johnson (Carrie The Musical), Louise Kelly (Billy Elliot), Debora Krizak (Sweet Charity), Monique Salle (A Chorus Line) and others. Producer Jay James-Moody says, "This [production] is a fascinating and insightful show, the perfect showcase of the best of Sondheim's writing with a stunning cast ..."

The goal of Sondheim on Sondheim is to "worship his words" as he writes of himself that he is a God, to anyone in musical theatre that is. The production is Sondheim's story, his inspiration, in his own words. Twenty four carefully chosen songs, framed by in-depth video interviews with Stephen Sondheim, delve into his personal life and artistic process.

The production will feature music from West Side Story, Company, Sweeney Todd, A Little Night Music and Follies, and is a show not to be missed.
