Sonder Dessert recently opened their doors in Sunnybank Hills and has already gained quite a lot of attention. I visited it on their fifth day of opening and was surprised to see just how many people there were! Finding a place to sit was not difficult, however, as they have both indoor and outdoor seating which accommodates quite a number of visitors.
The cafe is mainly influenced by Japan as many items on their menu have a Japanese element to them or are sourced directly from Japan itself, adding to their authenticity in serving Japanese-style desserts. Moreover, if you are a fan of matcha then this is definitely the place for you! As a fan of matcha myself, I could not resist trying out their matcha parfait during my visit, and I have to say I was not disappointed. The whole combination of elements in the parfait was definitely worth the queue when ordering!
The matcha green tea panna cotta was also an interesting dessert. The flavours worked well together and the "soil" cookie layer added both flavour and texture to it. Sonder Dessert also uses agar-agar as a replacement of gelatin in their desserts so it is vegetarian friendly too!
Overall the ambiance of the cafe was great during my visit. The staff were all friendly and tried to accommodate as best as they could to everyone's needs. Ordering up at the counter took longer than expected however, but the short amount of time the food took to come out justified it for me. I anticipate that after their first week of opening, Sonder Dessert will adapt and be able to serve in a more efficient manner.
I think this place is worth another visit, and I can't wait to try out more from them! Perhaps my next visit can include their coffee, tea or even an item from their hojicha range?
You're bound to find something you like from their range of coffees, teas and desserts
