This May, Brave New Word Theatre Company is presenting a strictly limited season of Son of Byblos, the latest play by celebrated Australian writer James Elazzi (Omar and Dawn, Lady Tabouli and Queen Fatima).
Son of Byblos, which was the finalist for the Silver Gull Play Award, is part of the 2022 Belvoir's 25a programme. Tickets are now on sale for $25 and $20 for previews.
Elazzi's writing, which has been described as humorous, touching and dramatic, stems from his upbringing, combining a hybrid cultural melting pot of Lebanese and Australian heritage. Like his previous plays, Son of Byblos captures untold voices and presents them in a truly humanistic, flawed and unique way.
Until Claire suddenly announces her engagement to a man abroad in Lebanon.
With this one decision their truce is shaken, and little by little Adam begins to lose his grip. Sex isn't getting him high anymore and his parents start asking questions he hasn't prepared answers to. His private world and cultural expectations finally clash and the lies that used to keep his life together won't work for him any longer.
Tickets for Son of Byblos (4-21 May) are now on sale through belvoir.com.au. Early bookings are advised as places are strictly limited.
