These peaceful and lush waterfalls just over 1 hour north of Sydney make for the perfect day trip to escape the cities hustle and bustle and just to be able to feel a million miles away from it all. Taking the F3 and turning off onto the Central Coast Hwy you will see signs for Wisemans Ferry road, turn here then take the first exit to Somersby Falls Road.
After you have parked the car, let the tranquil sounds of the falls wash over you as the cool dampness emitted from the rainforest around grips you.
The National Park has free barbecues for use and an excellent picnic area upstairs with a great view of one of the falls. Pack a picnic lunch, some cold drinks and a small rug and sit down and surrender yourself to the serenity of your surroundings. Brush Turkeys make frequent appearances around here, so keep an eye on your food and discard of food scraps in the bins provided.[BREAk]
When you feel ready to stretch your legs and walk off your lunch you can take the 500m round trip down to the bottom fall. It can get slippery on the track so go slow and be careful to avoid any slips or trips. Closed in footwear with a good grip is recommended. Taking the wooden staircase down an abundance of mossy green boulders waits as well as various running streams and rock pools.
The bottom falls holds some spectacular sites and some great photo opportunities. You are able to get right up close to the falls and stand underneath them on some parts. There are also viewing platforms to stand back, get your breath and take a break from the slightly taxing walk back up the stairs.
With two falls to explore and a picnic area you can easily spend a few hours here, relaxing in the nature, becoming lost within the water forest and just enjoying the sounds of birds and running water whilst enjoying a tasty picnic with friends. Reluctantly retreating back to reality at the end of a peaceful and relaxing day.
Besides National Park Car Park fees the entire day is free. There aren't any shops or kiosks around so bring your own food and drinks. Hot tip-To avoid any parking fees park just outside the gates of the park. There are toilets on site.
