This street meanders and undulates for 700 metres. The north side is all residential, with most of the south side adjacent to the
Somers Trail.

The highlight of my walk was a rainbow lorikeet nicely perched on a gum tree. These colourful birds don't seem fazed by close human intervention.

Winter flowering plants were plentiful with many fine displays of camellias and azaleas.

Many gardens had correas in flower, which is an endemic Australian plant.

Approaching one garden I spied a magpie quietly sitting on the ground and not moving as I approached. It was then that I realised it was a tin one, but quite lifelike from a distance. It was then that I heard the distant laughter of several kookaburras. Near the tin magpie was a tin kookaburra, quite a coincidence.

I soon saw some real magpies.

There were many walkers and their dogs about, mostly on the path in the parallel Somers Trail.

The dogs were running free.

The north side of Somers Street was elevated and several houses had steps up from the footpath. A rather weathered bear looked like he had been jammed in the fork of a street tree for some time.

A nice single stem aeonium plant stood out among a rockery of others. A white flowering plant was identified as an Australian finger lime. Two other Australian plants were several banksia and a grevillea.

Part way along is a small playground bordering the trail. It is fenced and ideal for small children who have a tendency to wander off. An outside external bench seat is provided for parents to sit and watch their offspring.

Several noisy miners were seen as well as a small unidentified bird. By its long narrow beak, I judged it to be a honeyeater.

Several geranium varieties were seen, one growing in a coir hanging basket on a front wall.

Many plumbago plants were in one garden as were several polygala bushes and several stands of lavender.

Seen from a distance were the bright orange blossoms of several honeysuckle vines.

My walk was on a nice 17º sunny winter's day with no wind. You can make it a circuit walk by walking the street and returning via the path in the adjacent Somers Trail.

We are here.
