Delivering a complex and next to faultless monologue, juxtaposed with songs with a twist, Ms Ce Ce Rockefellers Somebody's Somebody exceeded all my expectations. Strutting onto the stage and exerting confidence of an experienced performer, Ce Ce is stunning. She has the most compelling smile. I'm not sure If I should describe that smile as the smile of an angel of the smile of a devil.
The classic song Mrs Jones will never be the same for me again. I woke up this morning with the tune playing over and over again in my head as a result of hearing it belted out last night at the Rattlesnake Saloon. Ce Ce rocked out unique and naughty twists to well-known and loved songs that have stood the test of time. I loved hearing her sing. It was clear early in the show that this was going to be unlike other performances splashed with humour.
Loud spontaneous applause, cheers and wolf whistles break the spell at the end of each song. There are obviously returned fans in the audience. I'm quickly wound back into the suspense and misadventure.
Ce Ce exudes glamour, there are overt sexual undertones and you are pulled into her wicked embrace. I loved the renditions. Just like a movie was one of my favourites. So much so that I wanted to join in and sing out loud. Others may have felt the same. Maybe some did join in but I was only focussed on Ce Ce. To my surprise, I really felt it!
The performance is full of surprise. She is the master of pauses and emphasis. You will not fail to notice that cheeky upturned smile, twinkling eyes and gentle voice of a proficient storyteller who can also belt out a tune like no other.
