Solo Date in Surry Hills

When was the last time you went on a date with yourself? As much as it is important to spend time with your loved ones it is also essential to spend time the most important person in your life- you.

I am a self confessed 'solo date-a-holic'.

My ideal date day is spent in Surry Hills. I start my day at Le Pain Quotidien, this marvelous French café situated near the corner of Fitzroy and Bourke Street is a teleportation device. As you sit on the honey wood chairs surrounded by exposed beams and wooden tables, benches and cupboards, you feel as if you are in a French film orchestrated by the uplifting classical music that they play. I often sit near the large windows and look out onto the street while I write or read a good book. I must recommend their Cappuccino's, which are served in a small bowl and their oversized Choc Chip Cookies (they are bigger than my hand span).

After enjoying a delicious snack or meal I then venture up the road to the beginning of Crown Street where you can find shops and galleries galore. Once I get to Crown Street, I turn left and take my time walking towards Oxford Street. I visit amazing little vintage shops like Grandma Takes a Trip, Cream On Crown and Pinocchio's On Crown or I head to the Vinnies on Crown Street for some real bargains.

The galleries are my next favourite destination. The ever-changing Blank Space gallery features various contemporary and upcoming artists. As the space is for hire you will constantly see different art works, which quite often demand to be bought and displayed in your lounge room. I have a guilty pleasure of supporting these talented artists and purchasing one off pieces that are quite often reasonably priced.

At the end of a soul-enriching stroll down Crown Street, I sometimes end the day with a glass of wine at The Winery situated on 285A Crown Street. This enchanting place makes me feel like I'm in an adult version of Alice in Wonderland with its exotic plants, furniture and magical atmosphere. By the end of my date I am a new woman, ready to step back into reality… until the next time.
