Oh my gosh, this is just so exciting! Solar Nights is back! For the second year in a row, we have an opportunity to immerse ourselves in a whimsical light-filled wonderland - the University of Sunshine Coast (USC)'s enchanting wonderland, that in 2018 captured visitors' imaginations and …. got everybody talking!
The University of Sunshine Coast's campus was transformed into a magical world of fantasy.
Hosted by the University of the Sunshine Coast (USC), Solar Nights is a FREE family event, showcasing a sea of captivating light displays in celebration of sustainable energy, creativity, the environment and the community.
USC started Solar Nights' in 2018 to celebrate a successful partnership with Veolia. The partnership's objective to successfully solar power the Sunshine Coast's campus had been achieved, with six thousand solar panels installed across USC's campus, sufficient to power a giant 'water battery'.
Using a combination of solar power, centrifugal chillers and heat transfer technology, this very innovative system will cut the University's energy consumption by forty percent, putting USC at the forefront of Australian universities. This huge step forward has put USC on track to becoming carbon neutral by the year 2025, with the focus being on lessening energy consumption, rather than offsetting energy use.
To celebrate the successful completion of this project, USC transformed their campus into an enchanting wonderland to share with the public.
2018's Solar Nights was a huge success with throngs of smiling and happy visitors strolling around the University grounds, ooh-ing and aah-ing, in total awe and amazement. This, at a time of year, when traditionally the campus is quiet as a mouse. The Solar Night project was so much bigger than USC anticipated, with thousands of positive comments flooding in, the University decided it just had to all be 'done' again!
Solar Nights is an easy walking adventure across the University's Sunshine Coast campus, for friends and family to take in the lights. It was so fabulous last year (we went twice), USC feel sure that visitors will more than likely want to stay and play a bit longer at Solar Nights 2019, so for this year the University have extended the fun festival atmosphere, to include a food truck area.
Solar Night explorers can settle back and chill-lax - no need to rush home to make dinner - with some very tasty treats, featuring Mexican; gourmet calamari; loaded fries; donut creations plus real fruit ice-cream, for some sneaky late night treats! It's okay, Christmas only comes but once a year! Did I mention coffee? There'll be great coffee too!
Lots of delicious food options will be available for Solar Night fans! Image: www.usc.edu.au

The USC campus is proud to be a community asset - a public space for everyone to enjoy - including prams and wheelchairs. The Solar Nights trail is built around sealed campus paths, with staff stationed throughout the grounds to steer visitors in the 'right' direction.
