Fans of Sol Bread's retail outlet and café in West End have new reason to rejoice, their sister – and slight sleeker, café in Fortitude Valley is now open, and serving lovingly created wholesome eats from dawn till dusk. They also have an organic wine bar. If that piqued your interest, please read on.

Located under the new Mosaic Apartments on the corner of Ann in the Valley, the new addition to the Sol Breads family commands a more mainstream appeal than the west end outlet - it's certainly larger and flashier in terms of it's fit out. Polished concrete, halogen lights and a wall of organic wine complete the chic and on-trend interior, bringing the appeal of healthy eating, and quality baked breads to the masses.

The Sol story began in the basement of a West End restaurant in 1997, born from the desire to create naturally leavened, organic and nutritious breads. Each morning the bakers rose to the challenge lovingly creating artisan loaves for a growing legion of supporters to enjoy.

What started with humble beginnings has now, 17 years later turned into a mini health foods empire distributing their soursdough, gluten free and baked treats to supermarkets and health food stores around south east Queensland and northern New South Wales.

The excitement around the new Foritutde Valley addition to the Sol Breads family is proof the concept and the quality behind it has definitely come of age, now appealing to the masses.
The Bakery/Café/Pizzeria/Bar is a crowd pleaser for all types of eaters, not just those looking for the gluten, dairy free, or vegan friendly offerings.

Our first Sol experience was a lunchtime affair, with three of their sensational pizzas sampled as well as salad and drinks. While I wasn't in the mood for a late breakfast on this occasion, looking at the menu out of interest left me very impressed with the creativity, ingredient and healthy and mouth-watering meals on offer. Breakfast choices available until 2pm each day include:

Sautéed Swiss brown mushrooms w goats' cheese, sourdough & 2 organic eggs

Rosemary beans w balsamic roasted truss tomatoes, sourdough & 2 organic eggs

Grilled asparagus w smoked salmon, dukkah, Danish feta, sourdough & 2 organic eggs

Our pizzas we're cooked to perfection. You might think pizza is hard to mess up, but I've had less than stellar slices on several occasions. We ordered the nightshade pizza with eggplant, ricotta, and foir de latte cheese, chilli and basil and the Chick Lover Pizza with free range chicken, olives, red onion and brie, plus for good measure, the Veggie pizza on gluten free base. All three were pizzas where you could taste every individual ingredient and flavour, and unlike many a pizza where it's all salt and oil, here you got to appreciate the distinct flavour freshness of each individual ingredients.

When it comes to the drinks side of things, as well as a carefully curated list of organic alcoholic wines and craft beers, Sol offer delicious smoothies and delicious juices from Pressed Fresh Juices .

From $20 craft beer buckets to herald you into the weekend on Fridays, weekly trivia nights on Thursdays from 7pm are trivia nights and regular live performances, there's also always something happening at the Fortitude Valley outlet. With the comfortable leather couches, and spacious indoor and outdoor seating area's it's somewhere to linger and enjoy a late breakfast or long lunch.

You can bet your bottom dollar I'll be returning for a breakfast soon and with their commitment to seasonal ingredients and changing menu items based upon this, it's easy to have confidence in the freshness of everything on offer.

If you're looking for a festive and exciting lunch with out feeling guilty about overdosing on salt, sugar and fat, make the stop off at Sol. After tasting the difference of food where it's all about ingredients in their natural and basic form, it was a timely reminder of just why healthy and natural foods are so good.
