In an age of increasing time pressures and work and family commitments, finding a soothing and energising retreat is something many of us are looking for. SoHo Yoga at Newmarket is a studio to nurture the mind and the body. SoHo stands for Soul Home and the aim of the studio is to create a more mindful and compassionate world, through the life-affirming practices of yoga and meditation.
SoHo teacher Kathleen Charles says, "Yoga teaches us how to connect with ourselves, to calm and focus our minds to love and cherish all living beings and to accept people for who they are." What a wonderful sentiment for living well.
SoHo provides classes for beginners and the more experienced practitioners in vinyasa, yin, gentle and restorative yoga. The Newmarket studio also offers pregnancy yoga, kids yoga and mat pilates, plus monthly themed workshops.

Finding the studio is a surprise. When I drove into Newmarket, a sandwich board on the curbside of Finsbury Street confirmed that I was in the right place. While tucked away at the back of an industrial estate, the space is fresh and modern with wooden floors and clean, white walls and a relaxing and peaceful vibe. The sign on the front door invites guests to "please switch off phones and leave your worries, gossip, frustration, cares, anxiety and apprehension at the door."
SoHo has recently opened a new studio in Fortitude Valley for those close to the city and offer a monthly digest called "Take a Breath" to keep us updated on news and events.
Prices vary and include an intro pass of 10 days unlimited for $30, casual pricing , lunchtime express options, monthly passes and membership. Regular classes at SoHo Yoga are 75 minutes long and conveniently begin as early as 6:00am and conclude through to 8:30pm.
