Sogetsu School of Ikebana has been teaching the Japanese art of flower arrangement in Melbourne for over 50 years. It is one of the largest and most respected schools in Japan, with international branches worldwide.
From Monday 3rd to Sunday 9th August, Sogetsu School is hosting a FREE exhibition, showing the works of their talented students and teachers. This annual exhibition will be held at the Melbournestyle gallery in South Melbourne and offers the wider public the unique opportunity to discover this ever evolving art form.
Come along and peruse a variety of structured and non-structured styles, made with blooms, stems, leaves and other additional materials.
The exhibition is open daily from 10am to 4pm. Whilst there, you can consider joining an upcoming masterclass. Hosted by qualified teachers who are members of the Sogetsu Teachers Association, Japan, these masterclasses see students experiment with the elements of line, mass, space and colour in studied exercises.
Students will then progress to more advanced work in free style arrangements that allow greater freedom for expressing personal creativity.
