It’s the time of year again for one of the most dazzling displays of botanic art you will see anywhere in the world.
Sogetsu Ikebana Queensland Inc. is holding its annual exhibition of this elegant art of Japanese flower arranging at the
Mt Coot-tha Botanic Gardens Auditorium , Mt Coot-tha Road, Toowong on
Saturday, 31 August and Sunday, 1 September, 2024 from 10.00am until 4.00pm on both days.
Admission to the Exhibition is $5.00 per person.
Once inside the Auditorium, you will be able to enjoy free ikebana demonstrations daily at 10.30am and 1.00pm. These demonstrations will be conducted by experienced practitioners of this enchanting art. What you will see is sure to open your artistic senses and provide you with some interesting tips and tricks you can use in creating your own Sogetsu Ikebana works of art.
In addition to the demonstrations, you will have the opportunity to accompany a qualified Sogetsu Ikebana teacher on a guided tour of the Exhibition. The tours commence at 11.30am and 2.30pm daily and will show you how the theories you were introduced to during the demonstrations are applied in practice and expressed through the meaning and symbolism included in the various arrangements forming the Exhibition.
As well as these organised activities you will also have the opportunity to meet many of Brisbane's Sogetsu practitioners whose works will be on display. It’s here, in these casual conversations, where devotees will be happy to answer questions and explain the techniques and concepts behind the various arrangements.
Should your interest in the art form be raised to the level where you would like to learn more about the beauty, culture and creativity of Sogetsu Ikebana you can join in one of the hands-on classes at 1.30pm on both days. These classes will provide an introduction to a basic understanding of Sogetsu Ikebana fundamentals. The cost for these classes is $10.00.
This superb Exhibition only happens once a year so come along and be captivated by this most tranquil Japanese activity. It may even inspire you to begin your growth as an artist of the Ikebana art form which you can do with the support of the dynamic group of teachers and practitioners who make up the Sogetsu Ikebana Queensland Inc.
A selection of containers and materials suitable for the novice and the experienced aficionado will be on sale from 11.30 am each day of the Exhibition.
