In 2023 Sogetsu Ikebana Queensland Inc. celebrates 60 years of enriching community harmony through its promotion of Sogetsu Ikebana. The club continues to grow and this year, celebrating its Diamond Anniversary, there is going to be a real buzz around the annual exhibition. This wonderful organisation that has weathered the ravages of time and spread so much beauty and pleasure is going to put the focus on "Our Journey: Past: Present: Future".

In this landmark year the Sogetsu Ikebana Queensland Inc. Annual Exhibition is being held at the Mt Coot-tha Botanic Gardens Auditorium , Mt Coot-tha Road, Toowong on Saturday, 26 and Sunday, 27 August 2023 from 10.00am until 4.00pm on both days.

Admission to the Exhibition is $5.00 per person.

Entry to the Exhibition provides you with a wealth of opportunities. You can join in the free ikebana demonstrations daily at 10.30 am. The demonstrations will open up a world of interesting tips and tricks that go into creating Sogetsu Ikebana works of art to understand what the artist is conveying by the composition piece.

In addition to the demonstrations you may like to accompany qualified teachers on guided tours of the Exhibition commencing at 11.30am and 2.30pm daily. These tours provide support for the information discussed in the demonstrations by using actual displays to highlight the meaning and symbolism of various arrangements.

As you admire the Exhibition's displays you will also have the opportunity to meet many of Brisbane's Sogetsu practitioners who will be happy to answer questions and explain the techniques and concepts behind the various arrangements.

Once you have fully immersed yourself in the beauty, culture and creativity of Sogetsu Ikebana and feel you would like to develop a bit of practical know-how you can join in one of the hands-on classes at 1.30pm on both days. These classes are designed to introduce anybody interested to a basic understanding of Sogetsu Ikebana fundamentals. Cost for these classes is $10.00.

An organisation is only as strong as its people so the fact the Sogetsu Ikebana Queensland Inc. has been around for 60 years surely indicates some very wonderful people doing some very worthwhile things within the community.

This superb Exhibition only happens once a year so don't miss out on this very special year. Come along, you are sure to be captivated by this most tranquil Japanese activity. It may even inspire you to begin your growth as an artist of the Ikebana art form through the support of the dynamic group of teachers and practitioners who make up the Sogetsu Ikebana Queensland Inc.

If you decide you would like to have a go at, or are already a proponent of, Ikebana there will be a selection of containers and materials on sale during the Exhibition.
