Spring Racing Carnival at Flemington 2016

It's all about the hats and heels at the Sofitel Girls' Day Out. This is the debut event of the Spring Race Carnival and Flemington Racecourse is ready to bloom for 2016. It's all about irresistible fashion, masses of flowers and, of course plenty of breathtaking race day action.

Ready for a flutter? Celebrate the return of the Spring Racing Carnival with some high fashion fun at Flemington. The Sofitel Girls' Day Out is the perfect opportunity to pull your frocks out of hibernation, dress to the nines and flaunt your finery on the lawn.

Ladies love the ever-popular 'Paris Lane' retail and entertainment precinct. Revel in this fashion haven located above the stalls while being treated to the finest array of fine wine and food, with a stunning view of Melbourne and the racetrack as the backdrop.

The Sofitel Girls' Day Out is the first of six race days held over the season, and the highlight of the day is the $400,000 headline Group 1 Makybe Diva Stakes kicking off the middle racing distance for the Spring Racing Carnival. The Sofitel Girls' Day Out is followed by the Turnbull Stakes Day on Sunday 2nd October, the AAMI Victoria Derby Day on Saturday 29th October, the Emirates Melbourne Cup Day on Tuesday 1 November, Crown Oaks Day on Thursday 3rd November and the Emirates Stakes Day on Saturday 5th November 2016.

Not reserved exclusively for ladies, the Spring Racing Carnival has fun for the whole family. The Kids' Zone provides a range of free activities for children at the East End of the Public Lawn. Kids will love the pony rides, outdoor games and craft activities, while freeing parents up to enjoy the high-energy action out on the track.

The Sofitel Girls' Day Out is being held on Saturday 10th September 2016 from 10.30am 5.30pm. Gates open 90 minutes before the first race. General Admission is $20, Pensioners $10, Students $16 and Children under 16 years are admitted free. You can purchase tickets by calling 1300 727 575 or through Ticketek. There is a link to Ticketek through the Flemington Racing website.

Flemington Racecourse is located 448 Epson Road, Flemington. While parking is available, public transport is a highly recommended option. Special trains leave from Flinders Street Station and Southern Cross Station, running directly to Flemington Racecourse on racedays. For tram travellers, catch the No 57 West Maribyrnong tram from the corner of Elizabeth Street and Flinders Street to Stop 30 Flemington Drive.

I wonder if the spring racing carnival is the only timeleft for ladies to don those elegant hats. The hats and fascinators add that extra special touch and let a lady dress up to the nines and feel great about herself.

Melbourne needs more occasions for hats and fascinators to be worn. So much work, effort and money goes into the final choice of this piece of race wear, that to wear it just once borders on a criminal act!
We are expected to wear a different or new one every year, thus having to find large areas of appropriate storage for the other 364 days each year. It is a very big deal for ladies.
