An experience like no other

Upon arrival in Sofi's Lounge, Sofitel Melbourne, the soft music and grandeur decor charmed us. We were seated by the window at a private table for two, and welcomed by the waiter who explained the High Tea experience, advised us on the selection of teas, and through discussion, which one would be most suited to our taste palate, then took our order for tea.

Served a chilled glass of champagne to begin, we relaxed and laughed while admiring the Wedgewood fine china. Soon after, two decadent three tiered cake stands were delivered; one for my companion comprising savoury bagels and sandwiches with a variety of tempting fillings, scones with lemon curd, whipped cream, and strawberry jam, and luscious bite size sweets including an opera cake.

Mine, made to order to accommodate a gluten/dairy/fructose free pescatarian diet, comprised tasty vegan sandwiches, delicate raspberry muffins, and desserts to fight over - rich and light chocolate mousse and a mouth watering "I need the recipe" rhubarb tapioca pudding.

The serves were enough to share; which we did the vegan sandwiches, my favourite being smoked aubergine. We selected a light and fresh white peony tea to enjoy with our sandwiches, and a second glass of champagne to enjoy with the sweets.

The serene atmosphere felt as though we were in a home living room; had we not had prior engagements, I believe we would have happily stayed at Sofi's Lounge and talked and laughed beyond the 3 hours we did.

The food was plentiful with my three tiers alone, being enough for two. The service was exceptional with polite and well-groomed waiters who did not rush or disturb you unnecessarily. This is a perfect treat for anyone who needs a relaxing and decadent afternoon. A great idea for Valentine's Day, Mother's Day, a bridal shower, or any special occasion.

Weekdays offers tea at the table for $49 per person; weekends, enjoy 3 tiers and a buffet of hot and cold items for $75 per person. Price includes tea and a glass of champagne.

Sofi's Lounge is an elegant and sophisticated venue with exceptional service, that will see me returning soon. Put it on your to do list for a Melbourne High Tea experience you will love.

Thanks for the information on the GF High-Tea - sounds amazing and will definitely try. Another great place is at Strangers Corridor, Parliament House, Spring Street, Melbourne. Delicious and reasonably priced. Worth doing the tour of Parliament House too (45-60 mins) - bookings essential -and after climbing all those stairs, the High Tea is in order! - http://events.parliament.vic.gov.au/restaurant/
