This is another of those restaurants that you see as you pass by when you're going from here to anywhere, and you tell yourself you must try it out. I confess I've been remiss in turning into the small diversionary entrance just past the Ambulance station but driven straight past for far too long.

So where does a pensioner go to find simple and comfort foods all at the one location? I chose Sofia restaurant. Now I'm not suggesting that Sofia Restaurant is a restaurant only catering for the pensioners amongst us. Oh no, this is a family-friendly restaurant that has a great policy of making everyone feel important. People of all ages, including a young couple with a small new born bub, were in the restaurant when I visited on Sunday afternoon.





There's also an outside area with planters containing tropical cacti if you want a little peace and quiet.



The staff at Sofia's are eager to please, and move quietly and efficiently through the restaurant. There's nothing brash about the restaurant or the staff. There's a nice relaxed atmosphere for the diners.



I chose an entree size of an old favourite in Garlic Prawns which far exceeded my expectations, both as far as size as well as taste. The rice was subtly flavoured with the rich creamy garlic sauce, and there were 6 large prawns. A fine sprinkling of bright green parsley contrasted with the pink/red of the prawns.



I'd already chosen to have an entree size of Spaghetti Bolognaise and was speechless at the size of the serving when it came to the table. This serving would satisfy at least 3 people and so I asked if I could possibly take more than half of the serving as a take-away. They willingly did so.



As far as sweets are concerned I didn't indulge, however the variety caused me to raise my eyebrows. It's not every day that I am astonished. There's a couple of notes in my diary for next visit as to some favourites I'd like to try.







Having finished my meal I stopped to look at the TakeAway section which has a huge selection of Pizzas and Pastas to choose from. No wonder their trade is brisk.

Sophia (Loren) would be pleased to know that she is portrayed in such glowing terms on the Sofia Take Away Menu Board.



As Sophia is quoted as saying "Everything you see I owe to spaghetti".



While the grown-ups Restaurant menu is wide and contains Entrees and Mains, Beef/Lamb, Seafoods, Pasta, Pizza, Gourmet Pizza, Salads, and Pollo, the kids have their own menu as well - nuggets, fish and chips, carbonara, bolognaise and a selection of pastas. The outside playground is secured by a strong sealed fence and encourages the kids to get rid of their excess energy from their lunch by having fun away from their parents but safe in the playground which can easily be seen and monitored from the large windows of the restaurant.

Sofia Restaurant is Licenced and BYO.

For a lunch that satisfies the pocket as well as the tummy, then Sofia's Restaurant at Burwood East fills the bill. Try it out.
