Don't miss out on those precious photos becasue of COVID
While Melbourne is in lockdown and mask requirements are set to be firmly in place for a while, new and expectant mothers are missing out on precious family photos.

Thankfully, Melbourne- based Muka Portraits has created a concept for new families to document the milestone of a new baby despite mask requirements and social distancing requirements. This is an event that cannot be postponed and luckily, now it won't be missed.

While most professional photography sessions are off the market due to COVID, a talented Bayside photographer is now bringing her skills and experience into your home from afar via Zoom.

All you need is two camera-equipped smartphones and a stepladder. Following a design consultation, which includes a virtual tour of your home to find the best pockets of light, photographer Sarah Churcher guides you through the set up.

Using two phones, one for Sarah to direct and frame the image (through Zoom) and the other to use as the camera, a range
of photographs are taken, polished up digitally and the images are transformed into the Muka signature style before 30 professionally edited images are returned to you.

"Restaurant-prepared finish-at-home meals have become the new normal," she says. "I liken it to this. I send you the recipe and ingredients and then I teach you how to cook them. Together, we make art."

"What makes my style unique is the way I can create a space for the connection between my subjects to glow in front of the lens," she adds. "And this does not change if it is an iPhone or a professional camera. And communicating through Zoom instead of in person does not take this ability away."

Newborn and maternity photographs are irreplaceable. There is only a limited opportunity of time to get your bump and the fresh, wrinkly newborns documented. And in a time full of business pivots - it seems only natural that photography should be next.

As they are done remotely, portraits can be taken from anywhere, not just Melbourne. They remedy the issue of mask requirements and all social distancing is still maintained.

Sessions can be booked directly through Muka for $350, including 30 professionally finished photographs, your professional photo session and all photography consultations and guidance.

It's the perfect way to commemorate a life occasion and makes a beautiful gift for new mothers too.
