Social Hideout is an open-air cafe in Parramatta, surrounded by garden greenery in the hidden courtyard of a recently re-developed block on Victoria Road. It's new, bright and spacious indoors, whilst outdoors, sunlight streams through an inviting setting.




Early risers can enjoy a breakfast menu from 6am weekdays (7.30am weekends) and late risers can linger on same until 2.30pm. The lunch menu is effective from 11.30am and, for a limited time (1March-21May), a dinner menu serving breakfast and lunch favourites is available Wed-Sun until 10pm.

For breakfast, there's a variety of multi-cultural options – The American with a combination of bacon, egg, smashed avo, hash brown, aioli and barbecue sauce on a Japanese milk bun; The Beirut Hot Pot with eggs, ripe tomatoes, garlic and Turkish bread (add chorizo for further flavour); The Frenchy with vanilla mascarpone, sticky maple, berries and caramelised banana; an Arabian Board of poached eggs, haloumi, olives, cherry truss tomatoes, Lebanese cucumber, labneh and Turkish bread; and the Almost Greek Omelette with spinach, olives, sun-dried tomatoes, fetta and sourdough.

Other items include fruit granola bowls, Nutella and banana hotcakes, plus a dish called The Hayne Plane, a tribute to former Parramatta Eels footy player Jarryd Hayne. It includes both turkey and smoked salmon amongst several other components.

Breakfast prices are reasonable, starting from $8. However, it was lunch that a friend and I arrived for. Serving some interesting dishes, you can choose from pulled pork or schnitzel and slaw sliders, chicken avocado or lamb salads, sweet corn fritters, a Big Haloumi, burgers and seafood. I love the names of some, such as Bad Boy Burger and Drunk Marinara.

My friend went with The Barramundi – a fillet with lemon, herbs and an orange avocado salad ($18.90). The fish was fresh and filleted perfectly with no bones. She advised it was very nice, along with the tasty salad, well proportioned with lots of pieces to it and not weighed down with an over-abundance of rocket.



I chose the Za'atar Lemon Chicken with house made tahini, pomegranate, pine nuts and rocket ($17.90). The tahini outweighed the lemon flavour somewhat, however, that wasn't too much of a concern for me as I like lemon in moderation anyway. The main ingredient of chicken consisted of not one or two pieces of chicken but three and all were very tender. I loved the pomegranate on top, which added a sweet touch to the dish.



We also shared a side of sweet potato wedges ($8.50) with our meals. With both large and small pieces, they were crispy and crunchy on the outside whilst soft and sweet on the inside. They were a delicious accompaniment to two great mains.



Drinks were equally satisfying at the Social Hideout. We both began with a Morning Glory ($7.50), a juice consisting of mango, peach and passionfruit blended well. It was very nice and refreshing.



Later after my meal I just had to try one of their epic milkshakes I'd seen on their website, well they're actually called Cake Shakes (all are $12.50 each). They have three to choose from – Chocolate Overload, Naughty Nutella and Red Velvet. I went with the latter and it looked amazing when it came out. The presentation was wonderful and I was in awe like a kid in a candy store. It came topped with whipped cream, chocolate coated teddy bear biscuits, chocolate wafer sticks, Kit Kat pieces, hundreds and thousands, and a strawberry sauce. The milk and cake were very well blended in that if you didn't know there was cake in it, you wouldn't guess it. The consistency was that of a smoothie. I was in heaven. It was seriously divine.



A variety of other drinks are on offer, from coffee to teas, soft drinks, regular milkshakes and smoothies with some unique combinations, such as Knee's – an avocado chocolate smoothie. The Green Shrek with kale, apple, spinach, lemon and celery will appeal to those needing a healthy kick start.

Takeaway is available as well but it's a wonderful place to sit and catch up with friends or spend some quality 'alone' time unwinding and chillin'. Free parking is available in side streets and in the underground complex.
