So Much To Tell You is a novel written by Australian author John Marden and was first published in 1987. Fast forward a few years, and the book has now been made into a play of the same name, and is about to be staged by Garrick Theatre.

So Much To Tell You is based on a true story, following a teenager named Marina Jamison. Marina has been left scarred after becoming the unintended victim of an acid attack, which was thrown by her father. During her long stay in hospital, she refused to talk to anyone and she now finds herself in Warrington boarding school, where she still refuses to talk.

Her only 'communication' with anyone is writing in her diary, which during the play, involves Marina talking to the audience. Teased by the other girls in her dorm, you would believe that would make Marine retreat more into herself, but audiences unfamiliar with the storyline, might find themselves surprised.

Directed by Gail Lusted, her attraction to directing this play, is best said in her own words, "I love working with teenagers (being a drama teacher of 20 years) and we wanted to bring in some fresh 'blood' at Garrick. This play has been sitting on my shelf for years just begging to be produced. John Marsden is one of Australia's top Young adult authors, and this play is wonderful because it deals with teenage issues, indeed human issues, plus it is primarily a cast of teenage girls which is so rare in theatre."

"This is not necessarily a 'realistic' play. It has flashbacks, physical theatre, simple set, and I love breaking the fourth wall! It also deals with some serious issues, hopefully in a sensitive way but don't panic it is not all doom and gloom... as with life, there are moments of humour and light."

So for those of you who would like to see an Australian play, then you might want to head down to Garrick Theatre, 16 Meadow Street in Guildford to check out So Much To Tell You by John Marsden and directed by Gail Lusted.
