Having grown up with author and illustrator May Gibb's Snugglepot & Cuddlepie stories, I was very excited to discover this stage adaptation created for a new generation of children. The Canberra Theatre will host two performances of the show at
11am or 2pm on Saturday 20 August.
Appealing to
5-10 year olds, this performance follows the story of the Gumnut babies' quest to see a human. Their journey draws them to the big city, but on the way they meet a host of unusual and fun characters (some good, and others not so good), including Professor Kookaburra, Mrs Fantail, Mr Lizard, Mr Frog, Mrs Snake, Mr Possum, as well as Little Ragged Blossom, whilst trying to evade the Big Bad Banksia Man.
This charming, creative performance brings Gibb's iconic Aussie characters alive for a new (and old) audience to enjoy, whilst highlighting the unique beauty and magic of the Australian bush.

**Reviews:
"An engaging romp, bringing the magical bush tale to life for another generation… skilfully done… imaginative" – The Sydney Morning Herald
"This charming new stage adaptation of Snugglepot and Cuddlepie looks set to be a hit… stylish, inventive and cleverly designed… it exudes charm" – Sunday Telegraph**
In conjunction with this production, the Australian National Botanic Gardens have created
a touch display in the foyer of the Canberra Theatre where seeds, gumnuts, banksias and other plants will be on display to touch and explore. The purpose of this display is to help children (and adults) recognise and engage with the characters featured in Snugglepot & Cuddlepie.
