Brisbane's connection to colder climates
As negative as it might sound, one of my favourite things to do in Brisbane in February is get out of town. The start of February brings heavy snow to some of the most amazing mountains in the world. So, as I'm busy checking Niseko's snow forecast, I'm reminded to make my annual trip to Snowcentral to pick up some new snowboarding gear for my next adventure.
Snowcentral has been sharing their superior knowledge of the ski industry with Brisbane's shredheads for 20 years and are proud to support their local ski community. "Although there's no snow in Brisbane, we've got a loyal fan base that come and see us every time they hit the slopes. We're happy to be the connection to colder climates for our local community" said Rod Bishop, owner of Snowcentral.
After chatting away most of my morning about what type of boot would best suit my riding style, I decided on a pair of Ride snowboard boots. They have certified bootfitters on staff so I didn't just get a new boot, but rather a perfectly crafted weapon that will help me stay comfortable for longer while riding. "If I have one piece of advice for any rider, it's to make sure you have the best goggles and best boots you can. If your feet hurt and you can't see, you're not going to have too much fun on the mountain" said Will Pitt-Thacker, Snowcentral's equipment manager. Sound advice!
For a city with no snow I was astounded by the huge range of ski wear available. They carry all the big brands like Ride and K2, as well as some smaller local brands like 3CS ski jackets which spawned in the Snowy Mountains back in 2002. The collection of both local and international brands means you are bound to find the right equipment to suit any snow condition.
Whether you are located on the south or north side of the city there is a Snowcentral store near you. The original store is located in Keperra and they have since expanded to a second location in Underwood. As you wait with the rest of the city's shredheads for the snow to start falling, I highly recommend a trip to Snowcentral to get you in the mood for the upcoming northern hemisphere season.
