During the month of November in 2013, the Geelong Hospital was the recipient of a large donation, made by the [LINK=www.cottononfoundation.org/& #8206 ;
]Cotton On Foundation[/LINK] and the people of Geelong who participated in their [LINK=www.rungeelong.com.au/& #8206 ;
]Run Geelong[/LINK] event. In a spectacular achievement, over half a million dollars was raised for the Special Care Nursery redevelopment. Now the people behind Medimime Productions hope to add to that sum when they perform their annual pantomime, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs at the Geelong Performing Arts Centre (GPAC) , with all proceeds from the show going towards the cause.



But what do Medimime have to do with the hospital, might you ask? Why are they trying to piggyback on Cotton On's success, rather than donate to a different cause?

Well the answer is simple. Medimime is the Geelong Hospital. Technically.
You see, Medimime Productions Incorporated is made up of employees from Barwon Health (who run Geelong Hospital), as well as their family and friends. Each year, the multi-talented doctors, nurses, registrars and staff put on a pantomime performance to raise funds for new equipment for Barwon Health. This year, they have decided to focus their attention on the Geelong Hospital's most important project to date- the redevelopment of the Children's Special Care Nursery. It just so happens that there are other organisations that have decided to support the same cause in the same month, but this can only be seen as a win for the hospital and their fundraising efforts.



Since their formation in 1974, Medimime Productions have put on numerous pantomime shows for admiring audiences, including last year's successful King Arthur, which raised over $12,000 for Barwon Health. Now they have decided to tackle the popular tale of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, putting their own unique spin on it, of course.



Evil Queen Drucilla (played by Geelong theatre veteran Debbie Fraser) believes she is the most beautiful woman in the land, and when her magical mirror tells her otherwise, stating that Snow White (portrayed by rising-star actress Kate Gore) is the fairest by far, she seeks to destroy her competition once and for all. Completely unsuspecting of her fate, Snow White is wandering around in the woods alone, lost and afraid, until she is rescued by a troupe of lovable dwarfs (who invite her to live with them in their humble abode). Before long, the eight are living a harmonious life together. But then Queen Drucilla arrives at the small cottage, disguised as a crone and armed with a poisoned apple for the poor Snow White, hoping to get back her title of most beautiful. The charming Prince Valentine is the only one who can rescue the damsel in distress- will he make it to the cottage in time to save Snow White and the kingdom?



In true pantomime fashion, this production is very audience-participation focused, and features many well-known songs as part of the performance. Come along, boo Queen Drucilla, cheer on Snow White and the dwarfs, and enjoy the antics on the stage as the cast and crew of Medimime Productions bring Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs to life.
