Nominated as one of the best snorkelling spots in Sydney, Clovelly surely has its own charm during the hottest season in the year. Located 15 minutes away walk from Coogee beach, Clovelly, formerly known as "Little Coogee" offers a wonderful underwater experience. Friendly fishes and exotic corals have made Clovelly a favourite destination for snorkellers.
If this is your first time underwater with fins and snorkelling mask, Clovelly beach will put you to awe. Its calm and crystal clear surface of the water is a definite invitation to swim in. Once you are in, you will be amazed at how many fishes swim around and welcome you.
One of them might be Clovelly' famous blue groper. With a size of an adult's forearm, this creature is an ultimate friend of the snorkellers. It swims around people curiously; probably wondering what kind of fish we are because of our colourful fins and bubbly snorkels.
When you decided to swim further, more underwater beauties such as octopus and various sea molluscs (nudibranch) will greet your journey. Also, you might spot surgeonfish with their bright yellow and black stripes swimming between the rocks. At this point, you will realise their extreme friendliness that you might like to duck-dive and challenge yourself to pat those fishes with your hands.
However, for those who never have tried snorkelling before, buying a pair of fins, a mask and a snorkel might sound a little bit expensive, as the price could range around $40-$70.
A pair of fins, a mask and a snorkel then you are good to go!
So, as a solution Diving Plaza Sydney came up with a great thing to do on your weekends that lets you experience the underwater with less cost and more fun. Its $ 7 "Snorkel and BBQ Party" at Clovelly beach lets you hire complete snorkelling gear includes fins, masks and snorkels that you can use freely during the day. The event starts at 10 am until 3 pm with BBQ lunch provided from 12 pm. If you are a first timer, there will be diving instructors that can help you with the basic snorkelling. The best part is it only costs you $ 7!
As this event was originally created for Japanese nationals in Australia, you can also experience the multicultural environment while you snorkel. Nonetheless, do not worry because many English-speaking staff will be able to help if you have any questions or trouble with your gear. This event is held monthly, and the closest will be on this upcoming Sunday, 18 December 2011. Further inquiries are available through e-mail: email@example.com or phone: 02-9267-5377.
So if you don't want your summer days to go to waste, pencil this down your agenda. With only $ 7, you can have a delicious BBQ and go snorkelling in one of the most beautiful spots in Sydney. Who knows you might be able to pat the famous blue groper on the tail!
