Sneaky Pickle is the latest budding enterprise to jump on the "foodie truck" bandwagon, having only been around for 5 months at time of writing.

Keeping in spirit of the "sneaky" in Sneaky Pickle, its menu regularly changes, so you can be assured of some variety each time you visit. It should not be too long to recognize their van, which is a bold statement of red, yellow and orange, complemented with its trademark green pickles.

On this occasion, me and a friend had to "team up" to sample the food on offer. I went for the Southern Style Chicken, which is deeply fried chicken breast, submerged in coleslaw, and sandwiched between crisp slaw buns. A couple slices of pickles were to be found, almost by accident, beneath the coleslaw and chicken combo. Onion rings and ranch dip complement this $9 novelty lunch.

Overall, I was quite satisfied with the whole package. The onion rings were not heavy on batter, which is not easy to find. The crispy slaw buns complement the coleslaw and chicken pretty well. The coleslaw, in particular, was plentiful, and since there was no mayonnaise dressing, it almost made me think that this meal was relatively healthy. The pickles itself were not overwhelmingly bitter, which works just nicely for me. The chicken batter was a highlight, its sheer crispiness working well with the meat. The meat itself, however, felt a bit dry, and maybe could do with a bit more flavour.

My friend had the Texas Pulled Pork, which is almost similar to the presentation of the Southern Style Chicken, with the exception being the chicken replaced by the pork. BBQ corn and BB pickles complement the package, also at $9.

She noted that the pork was not tender enough for her liking, and was also spicy. As it turns out, the Texas Pulled Pork was also grilled with Cayenne peppers, which is comparable to black pepper, but does not burn as much as chilli.

Just to satisfy my curiosity, I returned to sample their $5 fried pickles with a hearty dressing of mayonnaise. Think chips, but with the taste of pickles inside. I was hoping for a bigger serving, but maybe I was also paying for its novelty. The batter was also on the salty side, while the pickles were consistently tame, compared to other pickles I have tasted.

If you wish, you can actually complement your meal with a range of hot sauces, camouflaging at the side of the van. I had to do a double-take to see that it was actually there.

As the menu changes, you can visit their Facebook page to check where they will be next, and also find out what will pop up on their menu.

Overall, if you are looking for something a little bit adventurous, or a sneaky and pleasant surprise, I suggest paying Sneaky Pickle a visit.
