If you were a Brisbane music-head say, ten years ago, the chances are fairly high that you saw Powderfinger or Custard before they were famous at a gig at The Zoo; go back twenty years, and you may have caught one of The Saints performances at a pub or bar somewhere.

Brisbane's performance spaces for indie musicians are important for nurturing our musical talent, and I've got good news for creative types living in the bayside area.

Sn@p is a new space in Wynnum that, according to their tagline, '[brings] creative people together'. It's a hub for artistic folk to share their ideas, and it also provides something that every frustrated creator craves – a stage and an audience.

On the first Saturday of each month, Sn@p turns the stage over to musicians, performers, film-makers... pretty much anyone with a creative talent is welcome. showcases the skills of local amateur creators and provides them with an easy pathway to scoring a gig.
If you're a band, soloist, dancer, film director, or other, register your interest in performing at Open Mic Saturday by emailing Chris Richards at [email protected]. Sn@p provides a full sound system, back line, and projectors, while you provide the act. Pretty simple, right?

And if you prefer listening to performing, you now have the opportunity to check out live acts once a month. The first Open Mic Night will take place 6 October, with a freshly released line-up including The Effects of Boredom , a three-piece punk rock band, and Kodiak Empire , an alternative rock quartet. A $2 cover charge applies.
