Snag a Democracy Sausage on Polling Day

While a weekend shopping visit to hardware giant Bunnings is incomplete without stopping at the sausage sizzle, so is grabbing a freshly cooked Democracy Sausage and a homemade cake while lodging your vote in a political election.



In political terms, the protein-based barbequed snack hugged by a piece of bread (and optional onions and sauce), known as the Democracy Sausage can draw voters to a polling booth faster more than the idea of voting itself.

Portable barbeques around the country turn up the heat at polling stations to provide a snack and help raise money for charities, churches and schools. Beside the barbies, you will often find cake stalls with homemade biscuits and sponges to take home for morning tea or lunch snacks.



Queensland will elect its State Government on Saturday 26 October 2024 to decide who will be the next Premier offering the ideal opportunity to stop by and snag a democracy sausage while you vote and support the local community. From the Kuranda Country Womens Association Hall in the North to the Gowrie State School in the West, there will be food on offer on polling day. In some cases, funds raised help to support upgrading playgrounds and sporting equipment.
