If you're a young person that fancies creative arts, then you should probably check out the latest Smart Artz showcase at South Bank.

Developed by young people for young people, the 'applied creativity' showcase is one of the latest projects set up by Smart Artz for the public to see. Smart Artz was originally set up by philanthropist and entrepreneur Graeme Wood in 2010 to support youth in their artistic and talented ventures. By giving budding youth the opportunity to express themselves in positive ways, the public is benefited and young people get the opportunity to work with real companies and organisations as well. Most people would recognise Smart Artz work on the mural in the rail corridor between South Bank and South Brisbane train station.

Smart Arts believes that by challenging artistic youth, the younger audience can become more engaged and more awareness for creativity is raised. And Applied Creativity, their latest initiative, is one of the ways that Smart Artz seeks to accomplish this.

Smart Artz works with schools, colleges, universities and arts organisations to enhance the skills of writers, visual artists, videographers, composers and designers. There are a range of programs that Smart Artz offers to young people, including 'WotOpera', which is an arts education program in partnership with Opera Australia that gives young people the opportunity to write, produce and publicly perform their own opera; 'Fresh Ink' is a training and mentoring program for aspiring playwrights run by the Australian Theatre for Young People; 'Papercuts', which is a poetry education program run by the Red Room Company; and the World Theatre Festival at Brisbane Powerhouse, which showcases local innovative theatre.

Of course, if you think you have the skills to be a creative artist, then why not join one of the Smart Artz workshops? These are a great place to put your ideas to the test and work with other artists in your chosen field, as well as gaining some great work experience with major organisations. And the best thing about it – they are free. For more information, please visit the website . Being creative is the dominant theme at Smart Artz, and as such, the workshops they run inspire 'creative intelligence' by encouraging young people that their ideas can become realities with a little hard work and support.

So to be check out what Brisbane's budding artists have to offer, check out the Smart Artz projects (in particular Applied Creativity), and be inspired. For further details, including how you can be involved, please visit the website . Please note that as a not-for-profit initiative, Smart Artz is run by generous donations from people in the community, so don't forget to support them in the work they do among the young people of Brisbane.
