Recently I spent a long weekend in Hobart to celebrate a friends 40th birthday. The invitation gave an itinerary of visits to Hobart's finer, but lesser known establishments. First stop, Small Fry for breakfast and to cure a hangover. Small Fry is exactly as the name suggests - small, intimate, with delectable morsels to entice you to visit each day to sample the latest creation.

Peanut and jelly donut with freeze dried raspberries
Although I am health conscience I could not go past the peanut and jelly donut with freeze dried raspberries for breakfast. A handmade delight brought to life on the premises, accompanied by a glass of Mauro Vergano Vermouth Bianco "BVB" from Piedmonte, Italy. Vermouth and donuts? Well yes actually, they go amazingly well together. Although overwhelmed I had burnt serious carbs walking up the hill to Small Fry and earned an appetite.

Peanut butter and jelly, lemon meringue, tiramisu, and Ferrero Rocher donuts at Small Fry
Don't mistake Small Fry for a sophisticated burger joint. The 'chef' is a one man show and mesmerises you with his artistry and skill to create phenomenal dishes from local products.

The Big Fry of Small Fry
He is chatty too. You can ask him questions, and he will explain his approach with love and passion. 'Another coffee?' 'Yes please!' Then it's time for lunch.

Small Fry's pork belly slider
Well, my inner Homer Simpson did appear as I could not go past the pork belly slider. Small, delectable, a little bit of chilly in the house made mayonnaise, rocket, and just the perfect slice of pork belly with the fat snuggled in a brioche bun. Divine! So with my belly full I wandered downhill to my accommodation for an afternoon nap. The rest is history. What else can I tell you? Just go to Small Fry.
