It's too hot. Way. Too. Hot. I've been getting up to go to work at 5:30am some mornings and even at that precious time, I've been finding myself getting hot and sweaty like - well, not like a cat in heat but I'm sure you get the general idea.

On these mornings I can't even think of coffee. No, I need something more refreshing, something cold, brain-freeze cold.

I work in Brisbane city in a tall office block. This office block is on the corner of a busy intersection, conveniently situated amongst a Starbucks, Pie Face and two 7 Eleven stores. Yes, two. I bet you can imagine how hard it is to resist these stores; especially during the early-morning lumber.

Normally, Starbucks is my last stop before I go to work. I order a frappuccino; extra coffee, and hope that it raises me from my catatonic state. But with droplets of sweat sliding down the curves in my back and hips, the allure of something much colder has been driving me into the 7 Eleven stores, and who would've thought that the classic slurpee could taste so good.

Slurpees have been around for, well, forever. I'm sure you can remember getting slurpees as a kid from the 7 Eleven on the corner of your street. They're just perfect for the hot summer weather, and they taste good too.

Most 7 Eleven stores stock four flavours of slurpee at any one time with one of these being promoted as: Flavour of the Month. At the moment, and up until the 4th of April, three Flavours of Summer are being promoted: Ginger Beer, Lemon Lime Bitters and Passionfruit. Some of the other flavours that are or have been available are: Honeydew Melon, Orange Mandarin, Cola, Sour Apple, Lemon Lime Vanilla, Orange Mango, Lemonade, Bubblegum, Juicy Grape, Sports Slurpee Blue and Sherbet.

At the moment I'm addicted to the Lemon Lime Bitters Slurpee. Refreshingly cold, not too bitter and not too sweet and it tastes exactly like lemon lime bitters should. I was also quite enamoured with the Honeydew Melon flavour when it was out as well.

Usually, you can buy a slurpee in three sizes: small, medium and large. At the moment there are five sizes available:

Small $2.30
Medium $2.60
Large $2.90
X-Large $3.30
Super Slurpee $3.90

The Super Slurpee is directly connected to a promotion that Slurpee is hosting. Buy Super Slurpees between the 3rd of January and the 27th of February; enter the special codes online, and when you reach five codes, a free limited edition Slurpee tee is yours. There are two styles of these tees available, and stocks are limited.
