For some, it is their favourite day of the year and well worth leaping out of bed for. It's not the absolute bargain (a Slurpee for $1) but the fun of the challenge.
The Slurpee BYO Cup Day is on Friday 5th October and its all about being inventive. No time for brain freezes before this great event.
You can use any container you like within reason. It could be a vase, a hat, a boot, your daughter's football trophy, a Mr Potato Head toy.
You could come dressed up and fill your hat. Mad Hatter anyone? You could go to the op-shop and find the funniest container on the shelf.
Your only limitation is your imagination and sticking within these guidelines:
1. Max dimensions of 23cm x 26cm. So forget the idea of bringing a bucket or the kids' wading pool.
But a diameter of 23cm is larger than most dinner plates so that is a hell of a lot of Slurpee
2. Keep it clean. No one likes a dirty slurp. In other words, clean out the container first.
3. Gotta be watertight to avoid a sticky mess. You don't want the store owner standing over you with a mop.
4. Don't be greedy, one cup per person
Share your creations on social media. For more information go to the
Slurpee Australia Facebook page.
This is perhaps one of the most brilliant marketing strategies ever.
According to
Mumbrella, the biggest cost involved in selling Slurpees goes into the supply of cups so everyone wins here even though the price seems a steal.
