Slumber Safari

Home > Melbourne > Fun for Children | Nature
Published August 18th 2009
The excitement and glamour of an African safari was once the stuff of a bygone era, enjoyed exclusively by a class of person who crossed the oceans on the White Star line, or those big game bounty hunters with large guns and even larger cheque books. Not any more. Now Melbournians with a sense of adventure are enjoying an Out of Africa experience just a few kilometres from the city at Werribee Open Range Zoo.

The Slumber Safari experience allows visitors to camp overnight in luxurious tents amongst the wild animals at Werribee’s famous open range zoo. The safari starts at 3.00pm when guests arrive at the ‘camp’. While the servants (also known as: zoo staff!) set up camp, guests spend the afternoon with a special guide, immersing themselves with the animals in their African savanna environment, before settling in for an African feast and entertainment around the campfire.

In the morning guests awaken to the sights and sounds of the African bush coming to life – and a hearty cooked breakfast.

If you fancy wearing your safari suit in an environment where it actually fits, while immersing yourself in a safe and fun African experience, this is a weekend you’ll never forget.
