Unleash your creative side by registering for one of the State Library of Queensland's craft workshops. They are held in the evening at the SLQ shop on Level 1 and are all at affordable prices and teach you some very cool crafts. The materials are provided, as well as refreshments.
This is the programme of workshops for the following few months:
Japanese Washi Paper and Shell Medallion Necklaces
Washi is the Japanese word for the traditional papers made from the long inner fibres of three plants. Join jewellery designer Barbara Vine for an introduction to making your own necklace using washi paper covered shell and crystal beads. Bring a notebook and a pen, a small plastic takeaway container to transport your necklace home and an apron to protect your clothes.

Japanese Kanzashi Flowers - Advanced
Join Japanese designer Mabina Alaka for this popular workshop, learning to create traditional Japanese kanzashi flowers from folded fabric. This workshop builds on Mabina's introductory class and you will learn more advanced techniques to create individual flower petals. Please note that attendance at the introductory class is a prerequisite.

Traditional Japanese Fabric Flowers
Learn to make traditional Japanese fabric flowers to decorate anything from clothing to cards to jewellery in this popular workshop. Paper artists and jewellery designer Mabina Alaka will show you how to make the flowers using Japanese fabric, and use them to create a brooch and earrings.

Kokedama Moss Balls
Join crafter Akemi for a hands-on workshop creating Japanese kokedama plant balls with moss, soil and twine. You can create two moss balls — one with a succulent and the other with an indoor plant. Bring an apron and a pair of protective gloves, coloured string if you wish to decorate your kokedama, and a container to transport your plant home.

Rubber Stamps for Christmas
Join printmaker Kay Watanabe and learn how to carve soft, easy to work rubber to create your own stamps to embellish cards and gift wrap for Christmas. Please wear an apron to protect your clothes from paint and ink and wear covered shoes as you will be working with sharp tools.

Japanese Furoshiki Bags and Gift Wrapping
Learn to create standout Japanese styled wrapping for your Christmas gifts with designer Mabina Alaka. In this hands-on workshop you will use square furoshiki material to create bags and gift wraps, create an origami Christmas tree, and learn various other wrapping techniques with paper.
