SleepX mattresses offer easy and affordable sleeping solutions. Image supplied.
The last time I bought a new mattress it involved traipsing around furniture warehouses on a 40 degree day, briefly lying on many beds (without pillows), which was hardly a realistic trial. Once purchased, I then had to strap it on to the roof of my car, hoping it didn't blow off on the drive home.
Not any more. SleepX offers a 120 night trial so you can sleep in your own bed, with your own pillows at home to make sure you've chosen the right mattress. If it's not right, swap it over for a different firmness or get a refund. The best part is you can order online, with free delivery making the process super easy. Each mattress comes with a ten-year guarantee, and is non-allergenic, anti-bacterial and 100% recyclable.
I recently ordered the SleepX Restore Firm Queen Size mattress which arrived the next day, rolled-up in a box. I placed the mattress on the end of my bed, peeled open the plastic wrapping and it popped out and unrolled. It seemed too easy,

The SleepX mattress appears simple, but underneath the cover, it uniquely combines up to three foam types including memory, resilient, and recovery foam. These allow heat to dissipate, weight to distribute more evenly, so, even with your partner's movement, you're less likely to notice and the foams are also long-lasting.
SleepX offers up to three different layers of foam for variable comfort.
When choosing a SleepX mattress, there are options to suit every body type and sleeper. From Serenity Soft, to Balance Medium to Restore Firm. When buying a Queen or King mattress, you can combine these so, for example, you can have one side soft, and the other side firm.
How is a memory foam mattress better? Having slept on inner-spring mattresses most of my life, my firm SleepX mattress also had a soft-cushioned layer. I didn't lie on the mattress, I melted into it, like it was custom designed for me.
As there are no springs, there's nothing to break, so a memory foam mattress will retain its shape, thickness and firmness. It also means there's no bounce-back (reducing movement) from springs.
It can take a few days to decompress and was firmer by the second night. Despite an adjustment period, I noticed improvements from the first sleep.

Did my sleep improve? The first night, I fell asleep quicker, and weirdly, dreamt up a new novel, about sleeping on a new mattress. After the first week, according to my sleep tracker app, sleep quality (a combination of light, deep and REM sleep) had improved by 20%, by the second week 40% (and counting). Some nights as soon as I lay down, I was asleep in under 30 seconds, not even enough time to turn on my sleep tracker.
Most recently, on a Saturday afternoon, I set my alarm for a 20 minute nap, but ended up sleeping for 14 hours (I can't remember the last time I slept so long). The next morning I had two coffees with breakfast then went for a mid-morning lie down (it was Sunday after all) and slept for another 4 hours. So, a definitive yes. Sleep quality has increased, I've been falling asleep quicker, and sleeping longer.
Some highlights from my two-week sleep diary included:
I'm a side sleeper, however, can now sleep on my back
Deep sleep increased from 5% to 40% nightly
I had a 20% increase in overall sleep quality after just 6 nights
If I woke during the night, I fell back to sleep which didn't always happen with my old mattress
I found it easy to put myself in a neutral position, which meant I fell asleep quicker

Being in a neutral position occurs when SCUBA diving, neither sinking nor rising, just floating. Sleeping on a SleepX mattress felt much the same, regardless of whether I was on my side or on my back. I became less aware of the mattress and more focussed on sleeping.
With improved slumber, I noticed several improvements, the most obvious being increased productivity, as I ticked off more of my to do list each day.
However, within the first few nights with my SleepX mattress, a back issue (slightly protruding disc) that had caused significant pain for months, miraculously improved.
Sure there were other factors, including physiotherapy but the biggest reduction in pain happened after improved sleep, meaning less reliance on pain medication, which has allowed me to get back to regular activities like swimming and walking.
It's a big call but two weeks with a SleepX mattress has changed my life.
A SleepX mattress looks deceptively simple, but it is technically complicated to ensure a fantastic nights sleep. Image supplied.
Intriguingly during the trial period I was away for the odd night and slept in a reasonably comfortable bed (or so I thought) at my grandmother's house, however, now it seemed like more of a cement block with rusty nails for springs. The next day I couldn't wait to get home and slide back into my SleepX mattress.
Not a dealbreaker for most, but more an observation, the mattress was higher than my previous one, which makes getting into and out of bed, easier.
There is also the SleepX Mattress Topper and Therapy Pillows which add a layer of comfort either to an existing mattress or to your new SleepX mattress.
SleepX also offers single mattresses so no one misses out on comfort. Image supplied.
It should be noted that the long box the mattress arrives in, provides hours of entertainment for kids and cats, being long enough to form a tunnel for home-made forts. So not only will the mattress assist you in getting a better nights sleep, there's a higher chance of a sleep-in with the kids easily entertained.
Whilst I could return the mattress if I wasn't happy, there's no way I could give it up. Going to bed has become something to look forward to. My biggest concern as a traveller, is how will I cope with being away from my mattress for weeks at a time?
The SleepX competition has now closed and the winner notified. Thanks to all that entered. Please follow SleepX on social media for future updates.
