Experience the beauty of ballet

There is something very beautiful about ballet, it has to be said. As a mum to 4 girls, it was inevitable that we would experience it first-hand. We did the round of lessons, rehearsals and concerts but watching a professional production takes ballet to another level altogether. The costumes, the music, the theatre experience is something everyone should try, even if you only ever go once in your lifetime.
If you are on the Gold Coast, here's your chance. Sleeping Beauty will be performed by the Imperial Russian Ballet Company, at The Arts Centre Gold Coast, on Saturday 20 October at 8pm and Sunday 21 October at 2pm. Prior to that they will be performing at Brisbane Concert Hall on 22 – 24 August. For other venues on the Australian tour, click here.
Sleeping Beauty is described as a classic masterpiece in 3 acts. Act 1 (1hr 5 mins) presents the christening of Aurora through to her 16th birthday and the pricking of her finger which, as we all know, results in a deep sleep. Act 2 (25 mins) and it's 100 years on and the famous kiss from the prince. Act 3 (45 mins) and a joyous celebration takes place as wedding guests are entertained by fairytale characters.
The Imperial Russian Ballet Company comprises 40 dancers from the major ballet schools of Russia. Their 2011 visit (performing A Festival of Russian Ballet) was a sell out so click here to buy your tickets for Sleeping Beauty.
