Catch a glimpse of astonishing hot air balloons

On Saturday the 2nd of October 2021, you have the opportunity to catch a glimpse of the skywhale family at Bordertown in the state's east near the border with Victoria. Skywhale and Skywhalepapa made their debut flights together in Canberra earlier this year and will now be travelling across the country as a National Gallery of Australia Touring Event.

These monumental sculptures are two hot air balloons created by award-winning artist Patricia Piccinini. Her new children's book Every Heart Sings tells the story of this skywhale family - Skywhale and Skywhalepapa. With the help of a studio of people, Patricia starts with some drawings and ends up with astonishing hot air balloons.

So, if you happen to be around the Bordertown area on October 2nd, be sure to look up and you might just see the amazing creatures floating in the sky. Please note though that the flight date may change depending on weather conditions, hence, do check their website for the latest information.

I saw Skywhale in Adelaide in 2014, flying above the Botanical Garden. It is very impressive.
