Love the skin you're in with treats and treatments by SKYN

Writing articles is not only enjoyable but can come with some pretty fabulous perks. Recently I got to enjoy an experience at SKYN to see how they can make your skin fresher, brighter and happier, and I am delighted to share my experience with you!

When I arrived at the SKYN clinic in Subiaco, I was excited to see what they could offer and how I would feel coming away from an afternoon pamper session. I found myself in front of their exceedingly quaint building with ample parking out the front (always a bonus), and made my way inside. I settled into the waiting area which was comfortable and very chic and was quickly greeted by a friendly staff member. I was prompted to fill out a questionnaire to capture any relevant medical conditions, previous treatments and my skincare needs before heading into my private treatment room with my Dermal Therapist.

Before getting started, we had a chat about my skin type, what I usually use on my skin (not a lot!), and what I'd like to get out of my experience. I wanted a treatment with little to no downtime due to my active lifestyle and mask-wearing requirements at work, and my therapist suggested a SKYN Refresh to help clean my skin and balance my oily complexion.

The therapist cleansed my skin to get rid of any residual makeup/sunscreen/sweat and then got started with a round of microdermabrasion. I'd never had microdermabrasion before, and essentially it felt like a weirdly satisfying mini skin vacuum! It cleared out most of my blemishes, and anything that the microdermabrasion couldn't budge was quelled with some additional extractions.

Following that, I received a medical-grade peel which has a strong scent but made my skin feel cleaner than it ever has. I then enjoyed a decongesting mask to ensure that all the congestion that could exist was well and truly gone.

Following this, my therapist set me up with LED light therapy which consists of adjustable light panels positioned close to my face. I learned that the LED light works on a cellular level to stimulate collagen production and encourage faster healing. The light exhibits the most delightful sunshiny warmth with no actual risk of actually burning yourself (which was good to know!). My therapist left me to relax under the warm lights for a good 15 or so minutes, and I was so relaxed that I had a little nap. After my LED therapy, my therapist massaged an Antioxidant Mask into my skin to restore moisture and top off a lovely experience.

I was also made aware that SKYN has a new treatment on the menu, an eCO2 Laser Treatment. This treatment works to micro-ablates your skin tissue (ie. it makes tiny wounds on your skin) which stimulates the body's natural healing processes to create new tissue and collagen. This leads to more youthful appearing skin and can also be used to treat scarring, improve wrinkles and skin laxity, restore skin firmness and even remove pigmentation.
There is some downtime associated with this treatment whilst your skin is healing and building up that lovely collagen, so you can experience some tenderness and redness for about 1-2 weeks. I didn't opt for this treatment as my line of work requires strict mask-wearing at the moment but once this pandemic is over, I will certainly be giving this exciting new treatment a go!

I was curious about the clientele SKYN has on a regular basis, and learned that most clients are aged between 30 and 50, and they have an increasing number of male clients - up to around 15%. I asked about what the biggest factor is affecting skin health and ageing and it's no surprise (especially in a place like Australia) that the sun is one of the biggest culprits! Wearing sunscreen daily and employing sun-smart behaviours is an excellent way to care for your skin, as well as avoiding things like smoking and using tanning beds.

Something that I loved about meeting the SKYN crew was learning how they value their clients and navigate working in an industry that can be difficult for those with body image issues. At SKYN, there is a strong focus on having treatments that boost your natural beauty rather than a focus on making you look like someone that you're not. They have a 'less is more' approach and help to guide people to take smaller steps when considering more significant treatments. From my conversations with the dermal therapist to the onsite nurse who provides cosmetic injections, I felt very positive about not only the high-quality services provided by SKYN but also their capacity to care for people who may struggle with their body image.

I absolutely recommend SKYN for any manner of treatments you might be considering and would encourage you to take a look at their website to check out the full range of treatments they offerhttps://skyn.com.au/

Thank you again to the SKYN team for giving me such a lovely experience, I can't wait to be back again!
