2015 Skyfire
The fire works over Lake Burley Griffin, Canberra

Arriving at the car park I was getting my stuff when an almighty rumble coursed through the air, shaking the earth as it went. I looked around to see that the firing of 105 Howitzer's cannon from the Gallipoli Reach had just occurred - an impressive piece of military equipment, I was disappointed I had missed it. A check of the timetable prior to going is definitely on my to do list so I don't miss out on any of the entertainment in store next year.

Jets roared as they flew over head, performing incredible feats and drawing gasps from the crowd at the pilot's daring dives towards the ground seemingly mere moments away from crashing before suddenly pulling up and taking off towards the horizon.

While waiting for the night to darken enough for the fire works themselves, one could enjoy a picnic, BBQ dinner or perhaps a glass of bubbly while witnessing a spectacular sunset. Once the sun had set, the Carillon and the city lights cast a gorgeous reflection over the lake.

Bands performing at Regatta Point were Yolanda be Cool & DCUP and Masketta Fall - being on the other side of the lake to the performances did make this difficult to hear, but music was provided on our side so this was not an issue.

The most popular point for viewing is Regatta Point, however anywhere within the vicinity of the lake including Kingston foreshore is ideal for a front row seat. At 8.30, the first of the fireworks silenced the crowds with the exception of plenty of ooh's and aah's. Fireworks lasted approximately 15-18 minutes.

One for all the family, this event also includes several eating locations or you can BYO dinner or a picnic. Easily accessible via public transport, biking, walking or driving (with lots of parking to be had) bring along a chair and warm clothes for a fun filled night that won't break the budget.

I like getting articles about events, but surprised by how many don't give a date, or place. This one hasn't got a date and neither has the link. I had to look it up on other sites to find out it has already passed. Please check the articles. Have often seen websites of restaurants that don't give opening times or address. They are basic things that we look for and it's very frustrating.
