Skyfire is a spectacular firework display that is held each March over Lake Burley Griffin, organised by local radio station FM 104.7 . The very first event was held in 1989 to celebrate the Canberra Festival that year and it was so popular, that it has been held every year since. This year it will be held on Saturday, 14th March as part of Canberra's Enlighten Festival.

The fireworks will begin at 8:30pm and will have a 20 minute music soundtrack to match, so take a radio with you and enjoy the beats that synchronise with the fireworks. Also, take a picnic blanket with you and grab your spot around the lake, while enjoying food from some of Canberra's favourite food trucks set up at Commonwealth Park by Skyfire EATS , who will be there from 10am. There will also be live entertainment from Skyfire Central at Regatta Point with Ned & Josh from 6pm.

If you would like to appreciate the fireworks from another vantage point, however, see the 3 exciting events, below...

1/ Parliament House will host a Skyfire event on their lawn ramps, which has an excellent view of Lake Burley Griffin. This is a good option if you don't like large crowds, with free parking around the grounds and a selection of food and beverages on-site. See here for details.

2/ Bookplate restaurant at the National Library of Australia have a front-row seat to the fireworks, located in the Parliamentary Triangle on the banks of Lake Burley Griffin. The restaurant will be hosting a Skyfire Party starting from 6pm with live music from the 'Grass Stage' and a 2 ½ hour canapés package to enjoy with the music and fireworks. Drinks not included. 3/ MV Southern Cross Cruises will be hosting a 3 hour Skyfire Cruise, starting from 7:30pm. Cruise the lake and enjoy a beverage and canape package, with morsels such as Smoked Salmon and Cream Cheese Sliders, Lamb Koftas with Labneh and Pitta Pockets, and Onion Bhajis with Mint Yoghurt. Tickets cost $120 per person. You won't find a better view, than literally right on the water! See here for details.

Skyfire is a much-anticipated event each year, with food trucks, music, fireworks and family fun. It is an opportunity for the Canberra community to get together and celebrate our Capital City.
