Seventeen members of the Papermakers and Artists of Qld will fill the Richard Randall Studio, Mt. Coot-tha from the 6th - 9th, August, 10.00 am to 4.00 pm and Tuesday 10th August, 10.00 am to 2.00 pm with their contemporary, creative and engaging work.
It will be a rare pleasure and a unique experience for the public to see artwork where the medium of paper extends beyond its character as a substrate to being an essential ingredient in the portrayal of the concept of lines in our environment.
The 'Sky, Sea, Land Lines' exhibition will present an eclectic array of works where paper and/or book is paramount for this group of contemporary artists.
The exhibition title allowed for a wide and varied interpretation of subject matter and for those taking part, the challenge was to refine the theme and draw upon moments which have been etched into the mind, making an impression on the artist; moments that were used as content to tell a story in, on and with the medium of paper.
These works are not all artist's books. The final product reflects the artistic vision of one person, without imposed constraints connected to marketing, censorship or a perceived conception of a book. The works in, on or with paper are a tool used to explore and communicate ideas in a very individual way, and there are endless means to this end, often eccentric or controversial ones.
These artists, while portraying their own distinctive journey on the exhibition's title, are also experienced artisan in other skill areas, creating exceptional quality, handmade and hand fashioned works. In the Artisan shop, you can expect to see cards, notebooks, unique miniature books and journals as well as paper and copper jewellery, basketry, eco dyeing and fibre artworks that are guaranteed to have the 'wow' factor!
Artist Talks daily at 11am: At this time, artists will share their interpretations and discuss the processes used in the creation of works for the show.
