Get ready to see Brisbane from new heights when you take in the mesmerising, panoramic view from the new Sky Deck observation space at the Star Brisbane.

Walking at street level around Brisbane immerses you in the heartbeat of the city, but viewing it from up high is a totally different experience. Now you can catch one of the best views of the Brisbane skyline from the Sky Deck at The Star Brisbane complex.

Opened in August 2024 by the Star Entertainment Group, The Star Brisbane is the centrepiece of the $3.6 billion Queens Wharf development, offering a casino, hotel, dining, retail, and tourism hot spot for the city.

One of the big features of The Star is the 250-metre Sky Deck, situated 100 metres above the Brisbane CBD, which promises one of the most spectacular views of Brisbane, along with dining and entertainment options. This alone makes it a must-see for residents and visitors to the city.

The other good news is that entrance to the Sky Deck is FREE, making it a perfect place to take visitors or meet family and friends for a memorable moment and stellar photo backdrop.

What you will see
We arrived at The Star from the George Street entrance, to begin our adventure. We were not expecting to see a small collection of street markets selling food, boutique skin care products, and more. Passing by these, we made our way up the stairs, past a daytime DJ spinning tunes and towards the back of the building to the lifts to the Sky Deck.

There are 2 lifts to take passengers.
After the short 23-flight ride, we stepped out onto the deck on a clear Autumn day. As you step out of the lift, a mix of the sky, neighbouring buildings and an expansive openness is a visual explosion. It's hard not to be in awe of the expansive view of the cityscape. The deck is a 250-metre circular rooftop runway so you are stepping around the parameter of the building.

Resting on the prime real estate on the banks of the Brisbane River makes Sky Deck an ideal vantage point for many of the city's landmarks. Directly opposite is South Bank Parklands, including the Wheel of Brisbane and the man-made beach. Right next door is the Cultural Precinct with our major galleries and museums against the backdrop of the Blackall Mountain ranges. Then it's fun to find community landmarks like Brisbane State High School, local churches and businesses.

The Bridges and the Riverside Expressway tie and connect it all to bring visitors into and through the city. The most outstanding and a little overwhelming part is the glass floor which gives a direct view to the street below you.

Despite the obvious expense and glamour of the building, it feels spacious and inclusive. There was no time limit so we didn't need to rush and make room for the next viewing of visitors. In fact, it was hard to leave.

Restaurants
To make your visit even more memorable, you might like to stop by one of the three exceptional restaurants which call Sky Deck home to sample:

  • Outdoor dining at Aloria on Sky Deck
  • casual all-day dining at Babblers
  • Open air bar, Cicada Blu .

There are also free public spaces with tables and chairs or grass to sit and bring your own bite to eat or have a small picnic and just take in the surrounds. It's nice to just stop and rest for a moment or two.

The sky deck is largely open air (while the restaurants are covered) so be sure to take a hat and sunglasses on a sunny day. Needless to say, make sure your camera is charged for the many photo opportunities and coveted selfies. How can you miss a backdrop like this? Overall, I felt like a tourist in my own town and it is incredible to see the way the city has changed and grown alongside its natural environment and older buildings.

    Getting There
The Star Hotel is located at 33 William Street, George Street Brisbane in the Queens Wharf precinct in the heart of the CBD. Take the high-speed lift to level 23. The lifts are quite small probably fitting around 8 people comfortably at a time.
