Louise Withers , Michael Coppel and Linda Bewick along with the Adelaide Festival Centre presents Six The Musical playing at Her Majesty's Theatre from May 21st - June 12th 2022. Six rewrites the history of the six wives of Henry VIII with a competition of whose story is the saddest and ending with the women taking back their stories. Even if you don't appreciate history, you will love this rendition. If you only see one show this year, this is the show for you. The Queens are Phoenix Jackson Mendoza as Catherine of Aragon, Kala Gare as Anne Boleyn, Loren Hunter as Jane Seymour, Kiara Daniele as Anne of Cleves, Chelsea Dawson as Katherine Howard and Vidya Makan as Catherine Parr. They realise that are only bunched together as the wives of Henry VIII but if you take away their husband, they are all beautiful, powerful women who are more than a wife and mother who had lives before Henry and some even after him.

Phoenix Jackson Mendosa is a vision in gold, she is Catherine of Aragon, the first wife and she feels she was hard done by as Henry divorced her for second wife Anne Boleyn. Kala Gare is the green machine, a rock chick and a little wild, we can see how his head was turned before hers was too and she was beheaded. Jane Seymour was his third, played by Loren Hunter - she claims to be the only one of the six he ever loved and is sweet and sincere. She was also the first of the three to give him a son. She stood by his side even when times were hard because she loved him. Unfortunately, she died from natural causes.

Lonely Henry looked elsewhere for his next wife and chose Anna of Cleves (Kiana Daniele) from a beautiful painting he saw of her. To Henry's dismay when she arrived, he felt he had been tricked as she didn't look like her painting at all. Daniele is the woman in red. She is fierce and confident and when Henry decided to divorce her, she got to move into a castle and live a happy life with lots of money. Did she get the worst deal out of all the wives? Chelsea Dawson was next, Katherine Howard, Henry's fifth wife. She was sassy, raunchy and looking for the love of her life after being treated so badly from such a young age by men. Henry was no exception and eventually, she found the love and respect she deserved from another. Henry was so jealous she was beheaded. Catherine Parr (Vidya Makan) was the only surviving wife, staying with him till the end, but in doing so. she lost the love of her life. She was in love with another when Henry decided she would be six and no one says no to a King.

The songs in this musical are heartfelt and tell the women's story with passion, hurt, anger and love, each song more intense than the last. It's the crowd who must decide which wife deserves the title of the worst deal. The musical is incredible, with upbeat music and full of energy routines with catchy lyrics, dramatic choreography and amazing costumes. Each woman takes to the stage with her own personality, styled costume and vocals each as good as the last. 5/5 Stars - don't miss your chance to see this fun and diva filled musical come to life at Her Majesty's Theatre this May.
