Look, if you haven't been to Six String Brewing Co yet, I'm kind of disappointed. No, don't bother making excuses, I just need you to sit there and think about what you've done – or not done, as is more accurate. I suppose if you haven't heard of it, I can't really blame you – Six String is secreted away in Erina; in the kind of location that limits itself to word-of-mouth publicity. And when you've sampled the mouthwatering delights of this local brewery, you'll want to go and kiss the mouth from whence came the tip-off (you're welcome in advance).
A word of warning: whenever I've visited on a weekend evening, the place has been pretty damn (and understandably) busy. So if you'd prefer a quieter experience, where you can chat with the bartenders and take the time to savour your food, I recommend heading in for lunch on a weekday.
Now, about the menu – it's not huge. But it doesn't need to be, because everything on it is just as tasty as it sounds. Think Aussie pub fare with a creative flare. For those who enjoy a burger with a foodie twist, I recommend the pulled pork burger with IPA jalapeño waldorf slaw. If you're in the mood for something with more Eastern flavours, try the Chicken Abodo – Filipio-style chicken wings marinated in garlic and rice wine with soy, served with a chilli and garlic dipping sauce. Finger-licking good doesn't even begin to cover it. There are also a selection of fun pizzas, and a beer-infused Mac and Cheese that is at the top of my list for my next visit.
Oh, and did I mention that Six String is a brewery? Well, it's actually the Central Coast's very first homegrown craft brewery, being 100% locally owned with 100% locally made product. So that makes their brews extra tasty, and probably means you should enjoy an extra one – you know, buy local and all that stuff. There are four brews for you to choose from (plus an assortment of locally sourced bevvies, from homemade lemonade to vodka). There's a Hefeweizen, Pale Ale, Dark Red IPA, and Golden Ale. Can't decide? Grab a flight of all four to figure out which one gets your whistle the wettest, then go back for a full-size of the chosen one (may or may not hear angelic chorus when you've found your soul beer).
Can't decide between brews? Grab a flight and let your tastebuds do the walking.
If you feel like taking more of their brews home, you can buy a growler and have it filled right there at the bar – making your at-home cocktail hour extra special.
Speaking of special, on Saturday mornings at 11 o'clock, you can enjoy a guided brewery tour. Not enough entertainment for ya? Well, pay Six String a visit on Friday or Saturday night, or Sunday afternoon for some live, original tunes from local musicians. Share a cold one with your mates while you enjoy the rustic ambiance that combines the looks of a basic Aussie shed with a designer eye, and perfectly sized tables.
Trust me on this one, Six String Brewing Co is going to be your new favourite place to gang hang.
