Sometimes going out to dinner on the spur of the moment can be a lovely, spontaneous, fun and romantic thing to do. But deciding where to go can take a little more time.

For my husband and I the choice is relatively easy as we both love Thai food so we just look for the one usually closest to where we are. This particular night we had just dropped our son off to football training at Newmarket so we quickly decided to try out Siri Thai located in Alderley. We have driven past it many times. It is located next to Coles along South Pine Road in Alderley and across the road from the train station.

Siri Thai restaurant claims to serve authentic Thai food. We were greeted and served by well presented and friendly wait staff. We choose to eat indoors and we were impressed with the tastefully decorated interior of the restaurant which had traditional Thai decor and art pieces on the walls. It was very colourful and very Thai.

is BYO and we were able to enjoy the atmosphere, drinking a glass of wine whilst waiting for our food to arrive.

We didn't have to wait very long for our entree of 'Coconut Prawns' to come out. The coconut covered king prawns with a special sauce ($8.50) were crispy and very delicious. We were a little disappointed that we only got one serve (3 pieces) to share rather than having one serve each. But that left more space for the mains.

My husband ordered the Red Duck Curry ($19.90) and I ordered the Spicy Ginger Fish ($19.90) which was deep fried fish fillets stir fried with chilli and mixed vegetables and the chef's special sauce. Both dishes are made to share.

Both dishes were very aromatic and colourful; tastefully balanced with loads of flavour and just the right amount of spice to make them quite enjoyable to eat. We love our Thai food to be spicy so we often choose the dishes that are spicy.

Things to know. There is plenty of parking just outside the door. They have both indoor and outdoor seating eating areas. Open for lunch and dinner, they have take away option as well. They also advertise no added MSG and can cater for different dietary needs.

The best thing about spur of the moment eating out? No cooking, no washing up and usually time well spent with my husband. We were very happy and satisfied.
