Sinister is a new horror-thriller film, which has spawned from the producers of Paranormal Activity and Insidious, and the writer-director of The Exorcism Of Emily Rose.

Directed by Scott Derrickson, who also co-wrote the script with C.Robert Cargill and starring Ethan Hawke, Juliet Rylance and James Ransone, Sinister opens with some highly disturbing Super 8 snuff footage, depicting a family of four, standing beneath a tree, with hoods over their heads and nooses around their necks and after what seems to be an impossible act, they are all soon strung up to their deaths.

Some time later, Ellison Oswalt, a washed-up true crime writer, moves into the murdered family's house and brings along his wife, Tracy ,and their two children, Ashley and Trevor, who have no idea Ellison has bought a grizzly crime scene to be their new home. Ellison hopes to use the murders as the basis for his new book and hopes that his research will help him discover what really happened to the fifth member of the ill-fated family, a little girl by the name of Stephanie, who disappeared without a trace, following the execution style murders of her parents and siblings.

Not long after moving in, Ellison finds a box in the attic, containing several reels of standard 8mm footage, which have been labelled as being innocent home movies, along with a working vintage projector. Unable to fight his sense of curiosity, Ellison does what anyone in his situation would do; he sets up the projector and gets the movies rolling and finds that these "innocent" films are really horrifying snuff movies, depicting various families doing normal family activities, before jump-cutting to them being murdered in absolutely horrendous ways. Ellison soon discovers that there is a mysterious and scary-looking figure that appears in all of them.

Not long after finding the terrible films, Ellison's son Trevor starts sleep walking and his daughter Ashley begins to paint somewhat disturbing images on the walls of the little missing girl who used to live there, who she claims is her new invisible friend. Ellison then contacts a historian who informs him of something so horrifying about the scary figure and bloody symbols depicted in the films he found, that there may be no way to escape its pure evilness!

Sinister is a very well made film, with a very well fitting soundtrack, cinematography and some freak-out worthy effects, with creepy children, evil omens and one killer ending!

Sinister is rated MA 15 for violence and mild course language
