Adelaide is home to a creative hub of creative contemporary worship and singing. There are several upcoming events set to explore and celebrate the explosion of Christian Contemporary Songs known as the Creative Singing Group. This will be a celebration of the innovation in song and hymn writing and creativity from the late 1960s right through to the present day.

There will be a 50-year reunion of the Creative Singing Group on Saturday, March 20 at 1pm and a Big Sing and Public Book Launch of 'Singing the Journey' at 4.30pm to 6pm. The Creative Singing Group is described as a multi-arts performing group that burst onto the church music scene in 1970 with powerful new expressions of worship. It was created by Rod Boucher, Douglas simper, David Woods (who will lead on the day) and the late Neil Quintrell.

Co-founders of the Creative Singing Group - Doug Simper, Neil Quintrell, Dave Woods and Rod Boucher, were all at Pirie St Methodist Church/Union Church in the Adelaide, which is now Pilgrim Uniting Church . What was special about the singing group was that it comprised a choir of young adults singing original Australian music.

Douglas Simper has collated 100 of his songs from over the years including very recent material. The book, Singing the Journey, is published by MediaCom and will be launched on the Saturday, March 20 at 4.30pm at Pilgrim Uniting Church .

Jan Oliver, a member of the contemporary singing group relates:
"Creative Singing Group was an amazing group. It was unique. In fact, the music it brought was actually 'unprecedented' – music that arose out of the ordinary. A whiff of 2020! We had no idea how this new genre of songs would affect our world at that time and into the future of the church, and beyond. The words, music, sound that was Creative Singing Group evoked hope, challenges, joy, solidarity, grounding to many of us, as well as those touched by our music. The church that we knew was changed significantly by the words and music of Rod, Neil, Doug, David and others. We had no idea of the impact that the songs would have and continue to have."
