"It's a market for selling, buying, exchanging, learning, singing, playing an instrument, networking, sharing ideas and experiences; in fact anything to do with music and culture," says, Dave Clark, co-owner, of The Singing Gallery.
Dave Clark and his friend Jim Fletcher purchased the former Congregational Church, located at 133 Main Road in McLaren Vale on the Fleurieu. For many years Dave had toured the country performing folk songs. He dreamed of creating a Music Centre where he could present concerts & foster local music & culture. This was the beginning of The Singing Gallery, ** which is now well known as a unique performance space for acoustic music with local, interstate & overseas performers, as well as providing spiritual & healing workshops, markets, live theatre, music events, weddings and festivals.

Many folk and blues music lovers will be familiar with the popular alfresco garden setting outside The Singing Gallery, known as The Groove Garden where local musicians provide family entertainment performing live blues and folk music on a Sunday afternoon in conjunction with Samara Teague.

Dave said, "The Musicians' Market is an extension of the Singing Gallery, where musicians and people who share a love of music can come together and share in their knowledge and skills. The market is open to people who want to learn something, or people that want to teach something. You may be someone that works on instruments and could be interested in doing repairs. It is an opportunity to come together and network and share in our combined knowledge.

As a musician you may be offering your services as a teacher or a live entertainer, a songwriter or performer. You might like to jam with other musicians on your guitar, harmonica, ukulele, violin, or whatever you fancy. If you play the piano there is one available. Perhaps you may wish to sing a few songs with friends, and learn some new chords for a song or two. The choice is yours; all are welcome.

Perhaps you may want to sell an instrument or sell your own recorded CD or promote your next gig, or just come and listen to someone else play a song. All of the music will be acoustic. Jam sessions and singing together is welcome. Getting together an playing and singing is a big part of what the Musicians' Market is all about."

The Singing Gallery is the ideal space, with its marvellous acoustics, where like-minded people can perform their music, recite poetry or even read something they have written, over a coffee and cake while gathered around a warm wood fire.

The day I visited, there was homemade casserole available, followed with freshly made pancakes, fresh strawberries & a dollop or two of cream; it was just the thing for a winter's day as we sat around the fire. You can of course, choose whether you wish to set up a table or just find a place inside where you can do your own thing. Serves of pancakes and casserole were only $5.00 per serve, and were delicious.

"The first couple of markets will be free, and we will see how things go. If you sell or learn something or enjoy listening to a song, you might like to make a donation of $5 to help with promotion and costs. There is no need to book, just turn up and see what happens," said Dave. "We will be here on the second Saturday of the month, from 10 am –2 pm."
