Sing Lit Station and Grapple MAX Dojo present Sing Lit Body Slam for the very first time! The events will take place at Aliwal Arts Centre from October 6th to 7th.
Here are three reasons why you should not give it a miss:
The People Behind It
This is the very first collaboration between Grapple MAX Dojo and Sing Lit Station. Greg Ho and Joshua Ip happened to be schoolmates some aeons ago. They met during a school reunion event and the idea just flashed through their minds.
Sing Lit Station, a literary charity with a goal in growing the local literary community and building a platform for writers and readers to meet, runs numerous outreach programmes including Book-A-Writer, Singapore Poetry Writing Month (SingPoWriMo), Writing the City, poetry flash mobs on the MRT and bus, and Singapore Poetry on The Sidewalks.
While Grapple MAX Dojo is Singapore's fastest growing pro-wrestling themed fitness school. It was founded by two of Southeast Asia's premier wrestlers: Greg Glorious and Dennis "The Ladykiller" H.
It'll bring together poets such as Stephanie Dogfoot, Joses Ho, Joshua Ip, Rajita Jay and David Wong Hsien Ming and pro-wrestlers from the school include Greg Glorious, Dennis "The Ladykiller" H., Nyc "The Aerial Sniper", Jeff Ederer, Irfan and Nat Cheung.
It's The World's First Ever Showcase Combining Spoken Word Poetry and Pro-Wrestling! Pro wrestling is improvised physical theatre, through a fusion of acrobatics and combat sport. Grapple MAX improvises it further by taking this art out of the ring and creating an intimate environment featuring larger-than-life characters to give an interactive "fight club" experience like no other to the audiences.
Poets from Sing Lit Station present their original works specially written for this event. Bringing together two performing art forms, the poets will engage in a war of the words as wrestlers from the pro-wrestling fitness school spar each other according to the spoken word recited.
For some, perhaps poetry reciting is a boring thing to do. However, they may change their minds upon watching this showcase.
